MVC Education Support

Keeping Morogoro’s Most Vulnerable Children (MVC) in School.

Kinara’s MVC project, in collaboration with the Social Action Trust Fund (SATF), removes the financial and health barriers that keep disadvantaged pupils out of class. It links school fees, caregiver micro-loans, and basic healthcare so that learning can continue uninterrupted.

Program: Education.

About the Project

Duration: 2024 – present.

Working across Morogoro Municipality and neighbouring rural wards, Kinara secures uninterrupted schooling for more than 100 children each year; in 2024 we reached 137 of the most vulnerable. Each term the team covers tuition, uniforms, learning materials and, where required, boarding allowances so pupils can focus on their studies rather than household hardship.

Support spans the full spectrum of schooling: primary classes, ordinary- and advanced-level secondary, Folk Development Colleges for vocational skills, and targeted scholarships that guide high-achieving students all the way to diploma or bachelor’s degrees.

Because a child’s classroom success hinges on household stability, Kinara also issues small revolving loans to caregivers. Recipients use the capital to start or expand micro-businesses—vegetable stalls, tailoring corners, small livestock—which in turn generate the cash flow that keeps children in school. Group savings circles reinforce repayment discipline, and Kinara field officers visit each enterprise to provide mentoring in pricing, record-keeping and market links.

Health is the third pillar. Every supported family receives a Community Health Fund card that unlocks basic clinic services. Regular school-based health talks, run jointly with teachers, promote hygiene and early care-seeking so illness stays off the list of reasons to miss class.

Monthly progress checks tie the package together: staff review attendance records, sit with teachers to flag academic gaps, and adjust loan or health-education schedules around exam timetables. The result is a steady pipeline of young learners who stay in class, graduate with marketable skills and carry their families toward greater financial security.

By weaving education, household income and primary healthcare into one support system, the MVC programme turns short-term aid into a long-term springboard—proving that even the most vulnerable children can thrive when barriers come down and opportunity walks through the school gate.
